What is Write like Silk?

Writing often has a bad image. Many people don’t want to write because they think they can’t. Putting words on the page can seem impossible. But it isn’t. In our workshop Write like Silk , you will write your own way using your own words.

We offer Write like Silk workshops for both English and German.

When our thoughts are clear to us, we can make them clear to others, too. Writing is always a relation from person to person.

What will I learn?

When you’ve learned how to Write like Silk:

You will stop thinking that you can’t write.
You will discover that you can.
You won’t worry about getting it perfect from the beginning.
You will focus on getting it right in the end.
You won’t see writing as a problem.
You will realise that it just means telling someone else what you think and feel and know.
You won’t need complex grammar to express complex thoughts.
You will learn that keeping it simple shows how much you really know.

How is it organised?

Write like Silk comprises 3 half-days, which can be organised to meet your requirements. One half-day is 3½ hours including a coffee break.

Examples for workshop formats:

1 half-day per week over 3 weeks
3 half-days in 1 week
1 full day and 1 half-day

The workshop can be adjusted in regard to content, length and structure to find a format that suits your requirements. Please get in touch for a tailor-made offer.

We speak either English or German during the workshop; all teaching materials and discussions will be in the chosen language. Upon completion of the workshop, you will receive a certificate on paper confirming your successful participation.

The workshop is designed for 3 to 6 participants.

We will:

practise spontaneous and creative writing
explore ways to achieve your personal writing goals
discuss the concepts of Go like Silk
and Kindness Communication
design texts for your specific readers
have fun together

We will not:

stick to one strategy for all situations
copy how other people write
practise grammar, fixed phrases or words
learn a list of dos & don’ts
sit still and stare at PowerPoint slides

Your coach

Your coach for the workshop will be Michèle Cooke, PhD.

Michèle Cooke, PhD

Michèle studied literature and languages, multilingual terminology management, translation and intercultural communication in Britain, the USA and Austria. She taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level in English and German at the University of Vienna for over 30 years. Her teaching included transcultural communication, multilingual academic and creative writing and Global English as well as scientific and technical communication. She developed innovative strategies for specialist and creative writing and for overcoming readers’ resistance to unfamiliar content.
